Categories : Advice
Regularly maintaining your IBC rainwater collection tank will allow you to use it for many years and preserve the quality of the water you collect. Multitanks, a specialist in rainwater harvesting and gardening equipment, gives you advice on how to properly use your 1000L tank as the seasons go by.

The IBC tank in spring and summer

During the months of use of your IBC rainwater collection tank, regular maintenance will keep your installation in good condition.

Maintenance of the filters of an IBC 1000L tank

Regularly check and clean the 1000L tank filters. In the case of self-cleaning filters, maintenance will be limited. If you use basket filters, however, examine them regularly and rinse them with water if necessary.

Disinfection of your IBC tank

To avoid the proliferation of algae and other undesirable substances in your tank, consider disinfecting it regularly.

There are products dedicated to water purification of rainwater recovery tanks. Abreuval tablets, for example, are as practical as they are effective. Their microbicidal action is durable and can decontaminate water polluted by bacteria and algae.

Also remember to protect your tank from the sun's rays, to avoid seeing micro-algae grow in the stored water. You can equip yourself with a tarpaulin for IBC tank that will preserve UV. This type of cover can also be used during the winter to protect your rainwater collection tank from the elements.

The IBC tank in autumn

Depending on the region in which you live, you may need to winter your tank in the fall to protect it from frost. In other regions, rainfall is very important at this time of the year and is therefore conducive to the recovery of large amounts of water. Remember to equip your 1000L IBC tank with an overflow so that you can evacuate the water in case of heavy rainfall.

The IBC tank in winter

When temperatures drop and the first frosts arrive, the IBC tank must be winterized. After completely emptying the tank and then cleaning it and all your accessories, store your tank indoors to avoid any risk of cracking or expansion of the valves.

 emptying your IBC tank

It is important to regularly drain your IBC tank, so you can clean it thoroughly and store it. To do this you will need a valve and a nozzle or a drain gun that will allow you to drain all the water from your rainwater tank.
