Robot mower: what are the pros and cons?

While it greatly facilitates the gardener's work, the mower robot also brings its share of drawbacks. Are you hesitant to swap your heat mower for a modern, autonomous machine? We review the good and bad sides of the latter to help you decide!

Robot mower: what is it?

As the name suggests, the robot mower mows the lawn foryou. No need to spend every Saturday afternoon of the summer walking the garden long, wide and across under a blazing sun to keep a lawn clean: the smart mower does it for you, without you having to intervene in any way!

Focus on how the mower robot works

He mows by himself, yes... But how? For a lawnmower to work, a few installations are required. Starting with that of a peripheral cable, whose function will be to delineate the area to be mowed. Because it goes without saying: if we all want a beautiful grass well mowed, we do not want the apparatus to cut all the plants of the garden ... We've usually put our heart into maintaining them and we care!

In order to protect the massifs,it is necessary to determine the framework within which the mower robot will evolve. As for its route to the charging station once it has emptied its battery, it will be determined by the guide cable, which you will also need to install.

Once all these boxes have been checked, the mower robot will be able to start doing its job within the limits of the delineated surface... You nap your toes in a fan on your lounge chair!

What are the advantages of the mower robot?

It is perfectly autonomous

It's even its main quality... The mower robot does EVERYTHING ALONE! And that's usually why we buy it: it allows you to have more time to devote to other garden work, or even other activities. Because you can love your garden without wanting to spend all your time behind your lawnmower.

It allows a nice cut

If it is very expensive, it is for a good reason: the robot mower has the advantage of offering a quality of cutting incomparable compared to that allowed by a conventional lawnmower.

Moreover, the lawn is all the more beautiful because it is nourished by mowing, according to the principle of "mulching" that applies to all mowing robots.

It makes very little noise

Beware of conventional wisdom: just because the mower robot is a high-tech object doesn't necessarily mean it's noisy. On the contrary, it is so little that one would almost forget it... Indeed, it is usually lent a sound level of 65 dB (on average), which means that it is possible to mow your lawn every day of the week without causing discomfort for its neighbors.

It doesn't need to be maintained

Unlike a traditional lawnmower, which needs to be drained and replaced regularly, the mower robot does not have maintenance. A big advantage when you know how much time you can spend tinkering with your tools.

What are the drawbacks of the mower robot?

It is relatively expensive

While there are many advantages to buying a lawnmower, there are also some drawbacks, starting with thepurchaseprice.. This is an indisputable fact: this type of machine is more expensive than a good old thermal mower.

At least 1000 euros for entry-level models, and up to 4000 euros for models suitable for very large areas or rough terrain... An investment that, of course, is not entirely painless.

At Multitanks, we offer models between 10 60and1350 euros. Visit our website to discover our models of robot mower and accessories..

It is not suitable for all types of gardens

To install a mower robot in your garden, it must be really stabilized: once the mowing surface is defined, no more installation of a new massif ... At the risk that the plants that make it up will be cut by the blades!

Therefore, you will only be able to consider this solution if you are certain not to make large exterior improvements..

It doesn't allow you to mow everything

Even if you have installed the peripheral cable as close as possible to the massifs and trees, there will still be a thin strip of grass that you will have to prune at the trimmer... A task less time-consuming than mowing the whole garden, but still taking time.

He's not quite smart

Just because the mower robot acts alone doesn't mean it's smart: if it avoids big obstacles, it's not very careful with small plant objects or debris scattered on the ground. Goodbye, toys forgotten by your children!
