Dwarf bean is found near beetroot, celery, cabbage, cucumber, peas, radish, tomato, and corn. Alongside the strawberry and carrot, the development will be even better and faster. Flowers such as capuchin, marigold, carnation, and aromatics, such as borage or dill, keep aphids and other pests away from beans.
The bean also likes to sow between rows of potatoes; these keep the Mexican ladybug away, a dreaded bean pest. This association is beneficial to the potato, the bean acting as a protector against attacks of beetles
. The Mexican bean ladybug belongs to the same family as the common ladybug. However, it is white and adorned with 16 black dots (8 on each wing). It is its larvae (yellow with stiff hairs and black tips) that feed on the leaves and leave only the ribs to the bean plant... The ladybug hibernates in plant debris; it is therefore appropriate, in the fall, to clean the garden well, or risk seeing these insects reappear the following spring.
Savory and rosemary can also be useful for beans. They help it fight the bean fly and help to strengthen its taste.
The larvae of the legume fly are also very harmful to the bean. They attack the seed (not the adult plant). Young maggots have a very pointed head that allows them to settle under the seed's tegument, thus preventing germination or lifting. Wet soils and cool springs benefit the development of these larvae. In areas where this parasite is high, we advise you not to sow directly in the open ground, instead to sow under cover and to transplant your young plants when the conditions are right.
Careful! Dwarf beans can't stand rowing beans. Fennel, onion, garlic, shallot, leek and chives will also not mix alongside the dwarf bean.
